Description
Built-in 2008, the opulent convertible has been transformed into a two-seater
and received completely new recessed bi-xenon headlights with LED tech
flanking the imposing Rolls-Royce grille, which was slightly inclined. Looking at
the side profile reveals an entirely different bodywork and a short tail
evoking Pininfarina's work during the 1950s and 1960s. All of the panels are
made from carbon fiber and there's also a new fabric soft top that folds
behind the rear seats under a wood-lined cover.
A similar wood-lined cover can be noticed in front of the windscreen where
the hood starts. It's more than just a design feature as underneath it are two
storage compartments for carrying various small items. Solid wood was used
for both front and rear covers and the theme continued inside the largely
unchanged cabin featuring an abundance of wood. As a final touch, a watch
created by Swiss marque Girard-Perregaux specifically for the Hyperion was
mounted on the dashboard.
The Hyperion's body features more rounded fenders than its original donor
car and a longer trunk. Lastly, the Hyperion's rear bumper wraps underneath
the vehicle and two large rectangular exhaust tips come from two holes in the
bumper.
From the side, the entire Pininfarina looks much more stylish and
aerodynamic than its donor Phantom. It also features a raised beltline that
spans from about the halfway point on the front fender to just behind the
door.
The Pininfarina Hyperion's drivetrain is a carryover from the Phantom. This is
certainly no downside though, as the Phantom features a rather impressive
drivetrain. It features a 6.7-liter V-12 engine that cranks 453 horsepower at
5,350 rpm and 531 pound-feet of torque at 3,500 rpm. This beast links up to a
six-speed automatic transmission that slings power to the rear wheels. This
combination propels the HYPERION to 60 mph in just 5.7 seconds.
